No AI
How NicWeyand.com uses LLMs in writing on this site.
Updated July 21st, 2025 A.D:
NicWeyand.com or any of my other projects don't use AI. This page used to be called "Minimal AI", where I detailed how I used Ollama offline models as a sounding board. But truthfully, I didn't get a ton out of them. They just aren't "There" yet, compared to online models, which are also quite bad.
I have used ChatGPT and Claude specifically within the past year, mostly to ask questions I could not find using DuckDuckGo, meaning I get practical use out of those two sites 1x a month. I am not digging for anything hard to answer or find, most of the time. When I am, I just don't know how to "phrase" it right for search engine optimization.
While I like the advancement Natural Language Processing (NLP) brings to the table, the way ChatGPT and Claude, plus others, are set up for environmental destruction is abhorrent and repulsive to me.
The plagiarism thing, too... that's pretty horrible, in its own right.
I will write this out more later when I have time. But for the record, I have used ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek and Llama mostly because search engines could not help me answer something. I do not use these LLMs on a regular basis, because I simply do not feel the need to.
I see LLMs and AI tools like them as a hammer. I only need to hammer something once in a while. Silicon Valley basically invented a hammer with a NFC card reader attached, and tried to manipulate people into using it for all tasks. The tool is useful. For, like, one or two things. The notion is you can use a hammer to solve your personal crises, like a therapist. Or it will look around your room and help you decorate. Or help you fix your broken bike chain. But in reality, it can't. Its a hammer. It doesn't know anything. Its a hammer. This isn't Toy Story. Its. A. Tool. Without. A. Brain.
